Michelle Caron-Pawlowksy’s work is concerned with the material possibilities of photography. Through the use of a multidisciplinary, installation-based approach that often combines photography, alternative printing processes, textiles, and natural materials, they experiment with the meanings that can arise when a photograph is given a re-established physical presence. Drawing on individual and collective histories as a point of departure, their work often centres on long-term processes of healing, the sentimental value we ascribe to objects, and ongoing reconsiderations of our relationships with the natural world and outdoor spaces. These themes lend themselves to a practice that is both diaristic and informed through research into subjects such as geopoetics, queer ecology, and environmental studies.
